Gustav Klimt is an Australian Symbolist painter and one of the most prominent members of the Vienna Art Nouveau (Vienna Secession) movement. Klimt is noted for his paintings, murals, sketches and other d’arts. Amongst his figurative work, which included allegories and portraits, he painted landscapes. Among the artists of the Vienna Secession, Klimt was most influenced by Japanese art and their methods. His mature works are characterised by a rejection of earlier naturalistic styles, and make use of symbols or symbolic elements to convey psychological ideas and emphasise the "freedom" of art from traditional culture.

The Tree of Life, Stoclet Frieze is a painting produced in the year 1909 and is based on the Art Nouveau style in a symbolic painting genre. This painting is a study of a series of three mosaics which depicts a swirling tree of life. This painting can be found and viewed at the Museum of Applied Arts, Vienna, Austria.

Danaë

In Greek mythology, Danaë was an Argive princess and mother of the hero Perseus by Zeus. She was credited with founding the city of Ardea in Latium during the Bronze Age. Danaë is a painting produced in the year 1909. This is an excellent example of Symbolism and the subject of this painting was famous among several artists during the early 1900s. This painting can be found and viewed at Galerie Würthle, Vienna, Austria.

The Three Ages of Women 

The Three Ages of Woman is a painting produced in the year 1905. This painting depicts three women in varying stages of age which symbolises the cycle of life. The Kiss is a painting which was produced between the years 1907 and 1908. This was painted in the gilded style and is one of the most famous works of the ‘golden period’ depicting a couple embracing each other. This painting can be viewed and found at Österreichische Galerie Belvedere, Vienna.

Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I is a painting produced in the year 1907. The portrait was commissioned by the sitter's husband, Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer, a Jewish banker and sugar producer. This painting is also known by the name The Lady in Gold or The Woman in Gold. This painting can be viewed at Neue Galerie, New York.

Judith and the Head of Holofernes is a painting produced in the year 1901. In this painting, the artist depicts the biblical figure Judith, holding the head of Holofernes after beheading him. This painting can be found and viewed at Österreichische Galerie Belvedere, Vienna.

Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer II is a painting produced in the year 1912. Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer II was a refined art-loving Viennese salon lady who was also a good friend of Klimt. This painting is a private collection and cannot be found or viewed in any exhibition.

Beethoven Frieze 

Beethoven Frieze is a painting produced in the year 1901. It was made over 112 feet long and extended over three walls of a side hall of the Secession. The frieze depicts a monumental allegory and is considered to be one of Klimt's key works. It was made using light materials and was first exhibited at the 14th Vienna Secessionist. This painting can be found and viewed at Secession Building, Vienna, Austria.

Death and Life is a painting produced in the year 1915. The Australian artist's paintings, murals, and sketches depict sensual eroticism and this painting was created in an Art Nouveau style by the use of the allegorical painting genre during the Golden phase.
